It's time! South Boston Speedway will drop the green flag on 2005 season Saturday, March 12

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — It's time.

The hype is over. The preparations are winding down. The engines have been tweaked. The competitors have become focused. It's now time for South Boston Speedway to drop the green flag on the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series season.

The season-opener at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval is scheduled for Saturday, March 12. As will be the case for all three March races this season, the opening event of the 25-race schedule at South Boston Speedway will have a special starting time of 2 p.m.

The featured attraction of the day will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division. Other events slated for action on the asphalt Saturday includes a 50-lap race for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division and 30-lap races for the competitors in the Pure Stock Division and Grand Stock Division.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 9 a.m. with practice for all divisions running from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Grandstand gates will open at noon and qualifying time trials will get underway at 12:45 p.m.

Adult admission for the race will be $8 up to 1:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $5 and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Tailgating spots along the backstretch at the speedway are available for the 2005 season at South Boston Speedway. Spaces are available for the entire season or on a weekly basis.

The tailgating area will be open for cars and trucks. Grills and unlimited size coolers will be available in the tailgating area, which will open when registration begins for competitors on race days.

Tailgating passes good for the entire season and include one race ticket are priced at $375, while season-long passes with two race tickets are priced at $550. If groups of more than two persons are parked in the tailgating area, additional general admission tickets can be purchased for $10 for the normal NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series events.

Weekly tailgating spaces are available at a price of $20, plus the $10 general admission fee. For special events, the weekly tailgating fee will be $30, plus the ticket price per person.

Prior to Saturday's season-opener, South Boston Speedway will host an open practice for all divisions on Friday, March 11. The open practice session was originally scheduled on Saturday, March 5, but was rained out.

Friday's open practice session will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The speedway's tech building will be open for inspections on Friday and teams will be allowed to leave car haulers in the pit area overnight.
