Jamie Owens is crowned Miss South Boston Speedway for 2006 season

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Petersburg, Va. resident Jamie Owens was crowned Miss South Boston Speedway 2006 prior to the season-opening event at America's Hometown Track.

Owens, 24, has a back ground in racing. Her father is a competitor in the touring Rolling Thunder Modified Series and her boyfriend, David Quackenbush, is a competitor in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway.

Owens replaces Katie Bowes of Danville, Va., who served as Miss South Boston Speedway during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

The next racing action at South Boston Speedway will come on Saturday, April 15, when the Strutmasters.com 150 will be run on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

The first race of the evening on April 15 will get the green flag at 7 p.m. Highlighting the night of racing will be a 150-lap event for the drivers in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division.

Also slated for action on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval on April 15 are the competitors in the Strutmasters.com Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the touring Southern Vintage Modified Series. The Pure Stock drivers will hit the asphalt for a pair of races on April 15.

Adult admission for the race will be $8 up to 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $5 and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
