SoBo will kickoff Memorial Day weekend Saturday with Salute to Armed Forces Night 150

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will honor all military personnel Saturday night when the legendary tracks kicks off the Memorial Day Weekend with the running of the Salute to Armed Forces 150.

All military personnel with ID's will be admitted free to Saturday's racing action at America's Hometown Track. The first event of the evening will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Highlighting the Salute to Armed Forces 150 will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the touring NASCAR AutoZone Elite Southeast Series.

The series made a stop at South Boston Speedway last year and Dusty Williams collected his first career Southeast Series triumph on the four-tenths mile oval.

Williams pulled out the victory in dramatic fashion as he nipped Jeff Fultz, the all-time leader in wins on the Southeast Series, in a two-lap dash to the checkered flag following a late-race caution.

In addition to the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Southeast Series event, other races planned on Saturday, May 27, include a 110-lap event for the drivers in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, a 50-lap shootout for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a 50 lap event for the touring Allison Legacy Series.

Donnie Allison will also be on hand at South Boston Speedway on Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Allison will be available to sign his new book, "As I Recall." The book is loaded with many interesting stories beginning with the 1979 Daytona 500. And, each of the stories is written as Allison recalls them.

Advanced tickets to Saturday's event are on sale now at the speedway office for the discounted price of $10 up until Friday at 5pm. Race day tickets will be $15. Children, ages nine and under, will be admitted free.
