South Boston Speedway now ready to open 2009 racing campaign on Saturday, March 21

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Mother Nature did not cooperate with South Boston Speedway competitors and fans last weekend, but the green flag is now ready to drop to begin the 2009 season on Saturday, March 21, at America's Hometown Track.

Persistent rain on Friday and Saturday of last week washed out the planned season-opener, however, this weekend five action-packed races are planned for the running of the NASCAR Whelen Night.

The first of five races will begin at 2 p.m. The featured event of the day will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division. Also slated for action on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval will be an event for the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a shootout for the competitors in the Legendary Flathead Series.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 9 a.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Grandstand gates will open at noon and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 12:45 p.m.

Adult tickets are priced at just $10 each for the afternoon of racing.

(June 29, 2021) – South Boston Speedway has teamed with TrackPass, the NBC Sports Gold platform, to livestream the July 3, 2021 Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 presented by Grand Atlantic Ocean Resort on the streaming service. Those with TrackPass subscriptions will be able to stream the event live. The event will also be streamed at SoBoSpeedway.TV , South Boston Speedway’s streaming platform served by SpeedSport. The pay-per-view event is at SoBoSpeedway.TV and remains $19.99, the same price as other NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series races on the platform this season. New Rules Changes Help Keep South Boston Speedway’s Limited Sportsman Division Affordable And A Fan Favorite South Boston, Va….South Boston Speedway officials have taken steps over the past few seasons to cut costs for competitors in the Limited Sportsman Division. Revamped motor rules that include multiple engine options have been implemented, and nearly all of the various engines have visited Victory Lane at “America’s Hometown Track.” The track’s one-tire rule which limits Limited Sportsman Division teams to being able to buy only one new tire per race has helped teams cut costs considerably. Offering good purses in conjunction with cost-cutting measures, South Boston Speedway officials have made racing in the division more affordable and have kept racing in the division competitive.
